One of the most unique and beautiful features of this project was the existing exposed structural ceiling beams inside the detached garage. Rather than covering them, our design team immediately recognized an opportunity to turn this structural element into a defining architectural feature.
Instead of installing a flat ceiling, we chose to leave the wood beams exposed and install sheetrock above them. This approach allowed us to:
• Preserve the natural wood character
• Create higher visual ceiling height

The result was a space that feels far more like a thoughtfully designed cottage than a converted garage.
The exposed beams combined with the natural textures created a subtle modern farmhouse aesthetic, giving the in-law suite a warm, inviting, and home-like atmosphere that fits beautifully within The Woodlands environment
To complement the natural wood elements, we selected finishes that would enhance the warmth of the space while still feeling fresh and timeless.
One of the most charming design details in this ADU is the use of blue and green patterned tiles in both the kitchen and bathroom areas.
These selections added:

The soft blue and green tones pair beautifully with the exposed wood beams, creating a cohesive design story that feels intentional and inviting.
